The Eau Claire Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 114,936 in 1970 to 161,151 in 2010. That was an increase of 40.2 percent.
The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 1,496 in 1970 to 7,008 in 2010. That was an increase of 368.4 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 1.3 percent to 4.3 percent.
The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 35.9 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the principal factor adding population in all periods.
The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, NDM edged out B-D as the primary factor adding population in the second period.
